Hank Fichtner created his first video resume and realized his
entrepreneurial talents while still a student at Lafayette College.
Opening for business from his dormitory room, he offered web-based video
profiles to fellow students. These home-made videos quickly became so
popular that he concluded that his next step should be to refine the
concept further and make it available to a broader market. In 2004, with
the strong backing and shared vision of Hal Kamine, Mr. Fichtner founded
Flashvue to perfect his idea and bring its benefits to the recruiting
industry.

Third Party Recruiting
Since employers increasingly use third party recruiters and have
diminished their internal career ladders, co-op/intern professionals and
career counselors need to be aware of these practices so as to better
advise students looking for employment.
- What policies should be created when deciding to work with third
party recruiters?
- What are some guidelines for temp agencies or search firms that want
access to your students?
- What are the ethics of a co-op/intern professional or career
counselor turning a candidate over to another party?
- When a temp agency says the position is temp to perm, how can one
tell it it’s true?
These are only some of the questions to be addressed at the March
NJCEIA meeting.

Director of the Institute on Work
Barrie Peterson has been a career counselor for 15 years. He wrote the
“Job Hunting” column across the top of the Bergen Record Business page in
the mid-90’s and co-founded the Institute on Work at Seton Hall University
in 1997. A nationally-recognized expert on workplace ethics and the growth
of various forms of contingent work, he publishes the “Consumer Guide to
“Best Practices” Temp Agencies” listing 42 participating NJ agencies and
250 reports on other agencies. He has been quoted in the NY Times, Wall
Street Journal, Star-Ledger, Asbury Park Press, Herald-News, Business Week
and Trenton Times and recently was a panelist on NJ Public TV’s four part
series on job search for “New Jersey Works”.
